MythBusters!...Italian Style

AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION IS REQUIRED! I need your help.

I'm sure many of you have read the book, or seen the movie Eat. Pray. Love.  If you haven't .. you should. The first third of the movie takes place in Italy and is revolved around eating and the Italian culture.  When the Italian reviews of the movie came out they said that it was like one big stereotype put into about 40 minutes of film...which I guess is pretty much true.  However throughout my time here, it's been fun for me to discover which stereotypes we have of the Italian culture are more or less true and which ones are completely false.  ALLORA, for my next blog I would like to share my personal opinions on the subject!

So please leave a comment of an Italian stereotype that you've heard of and ...if it's appropriate..I will share my thoughts on it!

I'm counting on you all

Grazie!

  1. I happened to meet an Italian here. He was really cool, I wish he would have stayed longer. But way too into fashion for my tastes, or for my opinion of what a male should be concerned with. So that's my main Italian stereotype. Oddly enough, it's like the exact opposite sterotype of what I would have thought of for India, and it's kind of like really big here.

    Ok. Bust my myth.

  3. OK Stina, this is what comes to mind when I picture Italy:
    1. Everyone is beautiful. EVERYONE.
    2. You eat pasta, pizza, and gelato.
    3. Everyone is fashionable and wears cool boots.
    4. People are very loud and yell at each other
    5. Lots of pickpockets
    6. Lots of football
    7. Everyone rides mopeds
    8. Also, everywhere/everything is beautiful.

True or false? I guess I will find out soon enough :)

  5. I also have some AFS exchange students in Denmark, and they are ALWAYS talking, and always using hand motions. They're also very big into music, and sharing new songs with our language class. Are all Italians like this or just these two? One is from Sanluri and one is from Varese.
